IIT Kanpur and UP Government Expand AI Training Programme to 900 Educators Across Uttar Pradesh

Artificial Intelligence is quickly becoming an important part of modern education, and Uttar Pradesh is taking another step towards preparing its educators for this technology-driven future.

IIT Kanpur, in collaboration with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), has expanded its Digital Literacy & Computational Thinking Concepts for Teachers (DLCCAI) programme to secondary education.

Under the expanded programme, 900 participants will receive training in digital literacy, computational thinking, Artificial Intelligence and technology-enabled teaching. The participants include secondary school teachers, lecturers from District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs), and officials from SCERT’s associated units.

The announcement, made on September 18, 2026, represents another development in Uttar Pradesh’s wider effort to strengthen digital and AI capabilities within the education system.

What Is the DLCCAI Programme?

The DLCCAI programme has been designed to help teachers become more comfortable with digital technologies, computational thinking, coding and Artificial Intelligence.

Instead of focusing only on theoretical knowledge, the programme follows a hands-on and application-oriented approach.

The new programme will run for eight weeks and combine classroom training at IIT Kanpur with online learning, mentoring and practical assignments.

The 900 participants will be divided into six batches of 150 participants each. The initial phase includes a five-day residential training programme at IIT Kanpur, followed by online learning and mentoring. The programme will conclude with a two-day showcase involving project presentations, peer learning and assessment.

Participants who successfully complete the required quizzes, assignments, projects and final presentation will receive a joint certificate from SCERT Uttar Pradesh and IIT Kanpur.

What Will Teachers Learn?

The programme covers much more than Artificial Intelligence.

Teachers will receive training in basic digital skills, productivity tools, spreadsheets, Google Workspace, digital communication, cybersecurity and digital citizenship.

The curriculum also introduces:

According to IIT Kanpur, the DLCCAI programme previously trained 750 primary school teachers and helped enable technology-supported learning that reached more than 10,000 students.

The programme has now been expanded to secondary education, increasing its reach across Uttar Pradesh’s school education system.

IIT Kanpur’s earlier teacher-training initiative, launched in 2025, also focused on digital literacy, computational thinking, coding and AI for government school teachers across Uttar Pradesh.

This shows that the latest 900-participant programme is part of a continuing effort rather than a standalone training event.
